Walking In His Father's Footsteps; Melbourne
One of the main reasons that I set up I Dig Your Sole Man was to have a project that would allow me to take more photos so that I would in turn be able to take better shots of my son who was born in June 2009.
I am often out and about with my wife and son when I shoot, and as my son is now 18 months old and starting to walk he is ready for some sneakers of his own and he recently stepped out in his first kicks; some great 2 tone Vans Eras.
I thought it was about time that he made his first appearance on the site - well done son - looking good!
That's it for January's focus on Melbourne's street style but stick around as there's more great stuff coming up this week .
Cheers
Sole Digger

Terry's Faves; Melbourne
Melbourne's laneways are a hidden web of walkways that run through the heart of the city and provide an array of hidden gems including fantastic cafe's, cool bars, amazing street art and in this case, Terry.
Terry loves sneakers and despite spending a fair few dollars on 3 new pairs of kicks over the Christmas season he can't help but keep going back to his beloved Pumas.
He picked the shoes up in Hong Kong 4 years ago, and despite them being tattered, faded and torn they are still his shoe of choice for pretty much every day, and every occasion.

Photographer Under Fire; Melbourne
Sometimes finding and shooting people can be a hazardous experience, and this shoot was no exception.
Spotted at Federation Square in Melbourne, this couple were in town on holiday from Gothenburg in Sweden, and with limited luggage space only had room to pack 1 pair of shoes each - and after much thought, they both decided to go for the classics.
Both shoes work as a practical and cool choice - but while the All Stars speak for themselves the Adidas Wilhelm Bungert kicks need a brief explanation. Willhelm was a German tennis player from the 1960's, he wasn't a household name but Adidas wanted to give him a namesake shoe and came up with this design which is a cross between a Superstar and a Stan Smith.
As you can appreciate this is a lot of information to get from the brief chat I had with during this very quick shoot - and it wasn't helped by a gobby nearby street artist who saw me shooting the shoes and drew attention to what I was doing through his PA system much to the amusement of his on-looking crowd.

Mr My First Women's Shoes; Melbourne
This find represents a double first for this sneaker owner as not only are these his first ever brand name sneakers, but they are also his first ever women's kicks!
He saw these great Adidas Originals A.039 Winetta High's on a friend, and loved them so much that he went to his local Adidas store to pick up a pair of his own. When he got to the store and was told that the shoes were a women's style it didn't deter him, he picked up a pair and he hasn't looked back since.
The A.039 range was developed by Swedish designer Josefine Åberg to offer a minimalist approach to shoe design. Personally I love the range, it gives Adidas a fantastic diffusion line that offers refined shoes and apparel to suit all tastes at a decent price below that of the flashier Y3 line - what do you think?

Dressed to Impress; Melbourne
This guy was out to impress in more ways than 1 when he hit the streets wearing his new Adidas Nizza High CQ's. He picked up these great kicks from the Adidas store on Hollywood Boulevard in LA and the shoes have pride of place in his collection, and he loves them so much that he's also picked up the same shoe in the alternative colourway of Infrared/Black/White (which you can check out here).
He seemed quite pleased that I spotted his look, but impressing me was only of minor concern though as the main objective for his day was impressing his girlfriend who was visiting Melbourne from LA.

Amster-glam; Melbourne
Dave is from Amsterdam and I spotted him while chilling out and listening to some music on Melbourne's busy Bourke St.
Dave has had these Converse All Stars for 18 months and as you can see they have been well worn and well loved.
Like loads of All stars fans, he loves the fact that the shoes offer comfort, versatility and practicality and he also likes the fact that they match his headphones perfectly.

Urban Outfitting; Melbourne
Everyone loves a bargain, and Clayton is a sneaker lover with an eye for a saving and he goes further than most to find unique kicks that can't be easily sourced in his home town of Melbourne.
He has a collection of limited edition kicks sourced from around the world, and always keeps an eye on US Urban Outfitters stores which is where he picked up these Vans suede/textile Bedford kicks at a knockdown price.
I have to admit that I havent seen this style before and I like their slim profile mid top design which makes them a great looking universal shoe that could work with a number of urban styles.

Sailor Jerry; Melbourne
Patrick has a keen interest in anything and everything from the rocking and rolling 1950's. He's been heavily influenced by his Father whose love for Brylcreem and retro styling has inspired him to keep the look alive today, and with these sneakers you can truly say that the look is alive and 'kick'ing.
With such a love for this period, it's no surprise that these 'Sailor Jerry' Converse All Stars caught his eye, and he got a real bargain as he picked them up for the knockdown price of $40 from a retail outlet 4 years ago.
It's not just fashion and styling that influence Patrick's look as he collects anything and everything to do with the 1950's (as you can see in the bottom picture) but the shoes are the perfect compliment to his rocking look.

Purple Rain; Melbourne
Happy New Year Everyone.
To get 2011 started in style, we're heading to Melbourne. Known to many as Australia’s Cultural capital, Melbourne has a fond place in my heart. I lived here in 1998 and although I’m now based in Sydney, I always love to visit Victoria’s capital to get a taste of this city which is unlike anywhere else in Oz.

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting some of my favourite finds, and to get things started today is a sneaker lover whose urban style is based around 2 key rules; 1) Only wear Stüssy clothes, and 2) Only wear purple sneakers.
This outfit ticks both boxes for his strict rules as he punctuates his simple monochrome look with his eye-catching New Balance MT580 kicks to give his look a strong colour injection.
