Kevin; Brisbane

Excuse the tenuous link, but after last week’s shots of catwalk loving models, I have decided to today unveil dog-loving Kevin.

Spotted in Brisbane Kevin had a very bright style that is as you can see quite unique.
I don't usually focus on anyone with Havianas, but I am keen to find people whose style is reflected in their footwear, and quite simply I couldn't imagine Kevin wearing any other kind of footwear in his beach-meets- city attire.

Vans Store; Sydney

Sydney recently celebrated the opening of it's new Vans store, which is not only the biggest Vans store in Australia, but I'm informed that it is in fact the largest dedicated Vans store in the world!
Located in The Galeries in inner city Sydney, the store offers a wide range of Vans goodies ranging from every Vans shoe you can think of through to a comprehensive range of clothing and accessories, plus great friendly staff - it really is a one stop shop for the brand that is off the wall.
If you're in Sydney, check it out over the weekend, and also time is running out to enter our great Vanguard competition - click on the button on the right to win!

Have a good one.

Jess is Fierce

This is my last post featuring a model from this year's series of Australia’s Next Top Model, so say hello to Jess Bush.

Jess was a real stand out on the series with a fierce look and a feisty style that is evident both on and off camera, and when we met her shoes seemed to sum up a lot of what her style is all about, offering an adventurous and confident addition to her chic monochrome dress.

You may think that models only spend vast sums on their clothes but that isn't (always) the case as these shoes are from the modest brand Lipstick and cost under $80, which just goes to show you that you can look as fierce as Jess if you want...well, almost.

Again, a big thanks to Megan Young for her work retouching the Next Top Model images, she is a fantastic shooter and retoucher whose work you can check out here; http://myfanwy.posterous.com/

Izzy Towers

Izzy was a memorable character on this year’s series of Australia’s Next Top Model due to her unique looks (she started the series with pink hair), glowing personality and of course towering height (I can vouch for this personally as I’m 6ft 2 and in these shoes she towered above me), and after recently meeting her eye-catching mirrored her personality, largely helped by her beloved Jeffrey Campbell shoes.

Jeffrey Campbell’s shoes are known around the world as being edgy reincarnations of classic styles, with a reputation for being footwear that taps into exactly what Izzy is all about; being bold, different and standing out from (and above) the crowd.  She went on to tell me that she loves the work of this US designer so much that she already has ordered another pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes, this time in horsehair, so keep an eye out for Izzy on and off the catwalk where she’s sure to be making some remarkable steps.

As with Charlotte's pics from Monday, a big thanks to my friend Megan Young for retouching the images, she is a fantastic shooter and retoucher whose work you can check out here; http://myfanwy.posterous.com/

Hotel Boredom/Circles Pt 2

My recent fascination with the circles that we see in everyday life has escalated further after spending too much time in hotels lately.  I've been on the road making a new TV show in Australia, and after being locked up in hotel rooms the mind can obviously wander!

And it's some hotel room related shots that inspired me for this post - welcome to my own dingy world.
This is also the reason I haven't been able to update posts as much recently, so apologies for the less than regular flow of posts - normal service to resume soon!

Charlotte Dawson

The fashion industry can be misconstrued as being a barbaric world of narcissism, out of control egos, and bitchiness, so I have become a massive fan of Charlotte Dawson’s work as a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model as she brings some much needed amusement, self-deprecation and humanity to the industry.

I ad the pleasure of meeting Charlotte recently, and in person she is equally as likeable with a fantastic sense of humour, and an equally fantastic sense of style which was topped off by these fantastic kicks.  These are no ordinary kicks though as Charlotte is rocking some of the most popular kicks in the world in these Isabel Marant Bekket sneakers; shoes that became so popular at recent European fashion shows that they have been near impossible to get!

Since being lucky enough to get a pair Charlotte’s been reluctant to take them off.  Looking at their contemporary style you can easily see why, as they are a fantastic shoe that quite simply must be snapped up if you see them in the shops.

A big thanks to my good, and very talented friend Megan Young for retouching the images, she is a fantastic shooter and retoucher whose work you can check out here; http://myfanwy.posterous.com/

Viva Kawasaki; Sydney

This cosmopolitan sneaker find took place in Sydney, Australia, while the subject was on holiday from her home in Rome, Italy, wearing shoes from Denmark.
Unfortunately she didn't speak any English, and my Italian is so bad that didn't help, but the universal language of sneakers came to the rescue.
She clearly loves her sportswear judging by the Nike jacket, and has a purists taste for sneakers with the cleanly designed eco-brand Kawasaki.  I have to admit I hadn't heard of the brand before, but after doing some research online - thanks Sneaker Freaker!) I am impressed with Kawasaki's work in Producing classic looking kicks, with an admirable eco-friendly business model.

Bikes; Sydney

The winter months have finally passed which is particularly good news for Sydney's biking community.  More and more people are picking up bikes which not only make for great transport, but can also make an interesting style statement too.

I On Iran; Sydney

Golasa is originally from Iran, but has travelled to Sydney to study English.
Her look offers something quite unique on the Sydney streets with an eclectic look that starts with her quite striking eye make up (which see's her using white eye shadow quite broadly around the eyes), and finished with her unusual shoes which she picked up in Turkey.
A real combination of influences and cultures, Golasa's look really is an International affair.

Circles; Sydney

It dawned on me a few days ago that wherever you go, circles seem to be there so I thought I would shoot a few circular street shapes.  Here are some that got my interest, I quite like the shots, hope you do too.

Flying Visit; Sydney

When having to spend time away from home the painstaking choice of what footwear to pack can be arduous.  Do you go for the cumbersome plan of packing a few pairs of shoes for all occasions (which I will hold my hands up and admit that I do), or do you go down the selective route and pack just 1 pair that suits all your needs.  The above sneaker lover went down the latter route on a recent trip to Sydney from Melbourne for work.
She wanted to bring a taste of Melbourne to Sydney so is dressing in a very Melbourne-esque way with layers, and accessories which is anchored by her clearly well worn, comfortable and practical All Stars which she is confident will be able to cope with anything Sydney throws her way.

Yoga Friends; Sydney

This couple of friends were spotted as they left a yoga class together, and were each displaying the kind of unique and edgy look that is indicative of the Sydney suburb of Newtown.
Their styles complimented each other well as he was more colourful and outgoing in his appearance with his neutral Vans offsetting his colourful shorts and accessories, while she was more understated yet bolder with her Dr Martens anchoring her monochrome look with body art that matched her bag.
A really lovely couple who were great to talk to, and both had looks that are interesting to look at.

Good Cause; Sydney

Like many people, Ivan has to wear smart clothes for work, leaving his sneaker collection as something of a treat for the weekends and days off.
He does a fantastic job of working in Child Welfare which see's him taking of kids at work, but in his own time he spends the same dedication and devotion on also taking care of his sneaker collection.
Among his 10 pairs are these 2002 Adidas Micropacer 3's, a real timeless classic of a shoe and despite some wear and tear they still have plenty of life left in them.

Behind The Brand; Vanguard

All this month we're running a great comp with fashion label Vanguard, and I was recently lucky enough to be invited behind the scenes of the Brisbane fashion powerhouse.
Brothers Sam and Jono Cottee started the brand only a few years ago and are already getting International recognition as a key player on the Australian menswear scene with their colourful, laid back approach to street style.
The pair are very passionate about their product's low key vibe having a vital place in the fashion landscape that can all too often feel cluttered with familiar names, styles and approaches to menswear.  Their ethos is to bring a new style, design and attitude to their product that is laid back and feel-good, a factor that many brands overlook.
The result is a portfolio of products that stand out from crowd with the ability to add some Aussie sunshine to any wardrobe, no matter where you are in the world.

Don't forget to enter our Vanguard competition this month, and stick around to see and hear the brother's talk about their brand in their own words in the coming weeks.

Brasilia; Sydney

Originally from Brasilia this sneaker lover is on holiday in Sydney and he picked up these colourful Puma 917s only a few weeks ago.
He has found the sneaker scene very different in Australia to that of his home country, with newer styles available earlier and more colourways to choose from, and he has embraced the change with these eye-catching shoes.
