Sometimes when language barriers stand in the way of a good old fashioned conversation I have to rely on the universal language of footwear appreciation to tap into my subject's stories.
This was just what happened when I met Keizo and Yuki in London's Covent Garden. They didn't speak English, and I don't speak Japanese, so a mixture of passing a pen and paper between us, talking slowly/loudly, pointing, and mime was used to unearth their story.
Using the above tools I found out that they are from Tokyo and visiting London on holiday, and they each decided to each pack a shoe that works for all occasions; the classic All Star.
Like many couples they have a shared style, each opting for black pea coats, dark denim and Cons, a simple, yet clean and non-offensive look that works as well for the streets of London as it does for Tokyo.
