2013 Round Up; July

While July saw more content showcasing the vibrant sneaker scene in Perth, it also covered some Sydney events with some interesting new additions to the Sydney scene.

First up was the introduction of a new Spring Court pop up store, a store that added to the brand's already impressive retail arm in Australia.

Next was the launch of the Deus Customs x Converse Jack Purcell First String collab, and the launch event attracted an interesting crowd of all ages with bikers alongside models and young kids showing that sneakers really can bring the most extreme of people together.

Jules: Sydney

By trade, Jules is a Barista at Sydney's fantastic Surry Hills' 'Bourke St Bakery'.  He's a man with simple tastes when it comes to shoes, but some curiosity has been brewing inside him for a while, as he has been a Cons All Stars wearer for some time but he's been curious to taste life in a pair of Spring Courts.  We met after he had percolated the idea for long enough to decide to pick up a pair of all black G2 low plimsolls, a signature style from the brand.  

This poignant moment could be the start of a whole new approach to shoes for Jules, as many wearers swear that once they've tried Spring Court they stay loyal to the brand and come back for more, so the same could be true for him.

New Spring Court Store - Newtown; Sydney

 

It may be winter in oz, but that doesn't mean to say that Spring hasn't already sprung some wonderous new life into the sneaker scene in Sydney, as our good friends at Spring Court have opened a new store in Newtown.

Located on King St, the store is a awash with the quality footwear you would expect from the brand, so I urge you to check it out!

Ross; Sydney

Ross is an artist who produces some pretty amazing work, but his kicks may be his most earnest and revealing canvas of all as they provide a glimpse into a pretty amazing story.
Ross picked up these Spring Court B2 Navy Mid Cuts in Paris 3 years ago.  Since then they've been around the world with him 3 times, which included enduring beach parties in Ibiza, a trip to Moscow which saw them survive -25 degree temperatures, a move to Sydney, and next up a move to LA.
These are his only shoes, and clothes he wears in the above pics are all he has as he's selling off everything to get started in the US in the coming weeks.
We met when he was closing down an exhibition of his work in Sydney which seemed to have been pretty successful as he sold a number of pieces, but although he's hankering for a new pair of Spring Courts he will have to wait until getting settled into his new life across the Pacific and who knows what kind of adventure his next pair will have.  Good luck Ross!

Tomasz; Sydney

After meeting Tomasz it didn't take long to realise we have a few things in common.  We're both photographers (him a successful fashion shooter whose work you can check here), and we both love Spring Court kicks. 

The French Brand seems to nurture a passionate following who become repeat customers once they have tried Spring Court shoes, and like myself, Tomasz found the combination of cost, comfort and style hard to beat after trying the brand for the first time.

These G2 Lo Cut White Canvas shoes are something of a signature shoe for the brand (as worn by John Lennon on the Abbey Road album cover) and were gifted to Tomasz after a shoot.  They're his first foray into canvas shoes from the brand (after like myself finding the black leather G2 as his first foray into Spring Courts) abut regardless of the model, finds all the brand's shoe capable of surviving anything he throws at them.

2012 - The Ladies

This week as I'm on hiatus, I thought it would be a good chance to take stock and round up some of my favourite content of the year.  It all starts today with the ladies, with the above shots detailing some of my fave female finds and kicks from 2012.

Kane; Sydney

As regular followers of IDYSM will know, I have a bit of a soft spot for the brand Spring Court, and that's partly down to the dapper chap above, Kane.
As the man responsible for repping the brand in Sydney, he not only talks the talk, but literally walks the walk too as a fan, and wearer of Spring Courts, and he was kind enough to pose in his beloved and well worn B2 Mid Cuts in Dim Taupe.
While many brands struggle to nail the balance between comfort and style, Spring Court seem to offer this effortlessly, and also have the ability to turn out product that works with any style.  Sure, these shoes fit perfectly with Kane's 50's inspired look, but they would work just as well with an array of styles.  If you don't believe me, then check out the brand either here to pick up some shoes like Kane's, or if in Sydney head to the brand's Potts POints store on Macleay St to ask the man himself in person.

Spring Court; Sydney

  

While I spend most of my time focusing on what other people are wearing, I'm increasingly asked what footwear I wear, and one brand I can never stray too far from is Spring Court.  

The French brand have been making tastefully iconic footwear for decades, and their classic styles are still as relevant today as they were back in the 60's when the likes of Serge Gainsbourg and John Lennon were rocking them.

As ever, the brand's fantastic flagship Sydney store in Potts Point showcases a great array of product, and I recently checked in to see what's looking hot for Spring/Summer.

My standouts for men were the SC4 available in both Lo and Mid cuts (see pics 3-6), while for the ladies my picks were the playful twists on the classic M2 and B2 mid styles (pics 7-8) shown above.

Also of interest was another brand stocked at the store that offers contemporary shoes.  Called Schmoove, the label offers great product for those looking for a smarter style when sneakers just won't do it, but regardless of the shoe type, offers the same level of chic design and style as their sneaker counterparts.
