2013 Round Up; November

The first thing that struck me when revisiting November's IDYSM content was that the month offered a great insight into the past, present and future of the sneaker game in different ways.
Throughout the month adidas featured heavily in some interesting pieces.
Global adidas ambassador DJ Neil Armstrong shared his personal sneaker story when I took him shopping and recounted how it all began for him.
My f50 Yohji Yamamoto collab football boot showcased an interesting current project, while my coverage of the brand's 2014 brand preview featured all manner of great product coming our way in the next 12 months; from the imminent Stan Smith relaunch, to exciting drops with the ZX, the Boost, Springblade, and football footwear ahead of the upcoming 2014 World Cup.

The Sydney sneaker scene was also alive and kicking as it celebrated the past, present and future of sneaker design with a couple of marquee events.

The first event was the fantastic Swap Meet hosted by sneaker x rev heads Zen Garage. Sydney has struggled to witness anything quite as bold as this swap meet during my time here, and I hope it shows that the city deserves some of the big action most commonly reserved for Melbourne

Finally, the exciting double whammy drop of the ASICS x Ronnie Fieg Gel Lyte V 'Volcano', and the Le Coq Sportif x 24 Kilates 'Flash' got the punters frothing at Sydney store 'Above The Clouds' – 2 great shoes that added to a number of amazing collabs through the year.

Zen Garage X The Kickz Stand Swap Meet Pt 2; Sydney

It took so many shots it was a shame to not share more - here's some more of the action from this weekend's Sydney Swap Meet.

Zen Garage x The Kickz Stand Sneaker Swap Meet; Sydney

A big shout out to Sydney's Zen Garage and The Kickz Stand as this weekend they threw a great Sydney Swap Meet - something not seen often enough!
Shoes and people of all different styles, cars, music and the Zen Garage model's were all in attendance and I hope it's something we see more of as this was a great example of the sneaker scene bringing people together in a great way - good work guys.

2012 - The Videos; The Rest

More video treats for you today as we take another walk done some of my fave content from 2012 while I take a short, but well deserved break.
Video is something I love creating, my background is in the TV industry so trying to match my raw, observational style of photography in moving images is something I enjoy a lot, and it seems my work is of interest to an array of brands across the sneaker and fashion world.
Above are some of my picks of the last 12 months, and there will be plenty more coming your way in 2013 too so I hope you like them!

Sydney Swap Meet Video; Video

Hey everyone, hope you had a great holidays.
It's obviously a time of giving, so it was apt that Sydney recently saw some giving and taking on a sneaker level that the scene has been crying out for.
Swap Meets are a great way for the sneaker family to come together and share an appreciation for all things kicks.  Melbourne certainly represents with the phenomenal Sneaker Freaker Swap Meets, but for Sydneysiders it’s been easy to feel left out, until now that is.
Edward Tran is a student and huge sneaker lover, and he took it upon himself to see if he could rectify things by setting up his first Sydney Swap  Meet, an event that got sneakerheads, brands and stores together.
You will have seen my shots from the event recently, but I also shot some video as well, offering a chance for Ed and the crew there on the day to talk about the event, and how the obvious appetite in Sydney will throw up more events.

Sydney Swap Meet; Sydney

We're taking a break from Hong Kong today to instead feature an event that took place in Sydney yesterday.
A big hats off to my new mate Ed, a man who single handidly decided to give something back to his beloved Sydney sneaker scene by staging the Sydney Swap Meet, an event that brought sneakerheads far and wide together to share their love of kicks.
Based in Surry Hills yesterday afternoon, the event brought out a colourful mix of kicks and peeps who despite their differing tastes were all brought together by their shared love of sneakers.
It was a great afternoon offering up some fantastic shoes which was helped by the good folks at Sneaker Freaker, New Balance, as well as Sydney stores Espionage, Capsule and Half Sleeve.
Here are some of my select shots from the event, which I hope is the first of many for Sydney (and I'll throw up more images on the IDYSM Facebook page too).
Back to Hong Kong tomorrow - see you then.

Edward; Sydney

Say hi to Ed and his beloved NB 1300 Ronnie Fieg Salmon Soles.  He's a man with a keen eye for kicks, and he's someone who's doing all he can to give something back to the Sydney sneaker scene.
He's studying to be an engineer and right now he's tackling an epic project in the Sydney Swap Meet.
Swap meets offer a great chance for sneakerheads of all levels to come together on a day where shoes take centre stage allowing bargains, and friends to be made, all over a shared love of kicks.
Ed is doing all he can to get great brands, and great sponsors on board for what is shaping up to be a great day so check out the event's FB page here and I hope to see you in Sydney on Dec 16th between 11am - 5pm at District 1 in Surry Hills!
